In commemoration of June 16, the eThekwini Municipality has launched the bike park in  KwaMashu Section-E.

According to the media statement issued by the eThekwini Municipality, the bike park would provide free cycling training, academic support, and life skills opportunities to the township children between the ages of 6 and 18yrs old.

A local resident, Nokwah Mayeza, said why did the Municipality launched a new park while there is another one in Section-F.

“What would happen with the other park that is from KwaMashu Section-F,” she said.

The eThekwini Municipality said, a park that is located from Section-F would move to Section-E, which has a bigger space and the improved infrastructure.

Another resident, Nkululeko Boy, said why the government is only prioritizing the big townships for the infrastructure.

“The problem with this metro is that they always prioritise the INK Areas (Inanda, KwaMashu, and Ntuzuma) when it comes to development. Here at Tshelimnyama we have only one grassless field. The underage drinking is too high, and substance abuse because the Municipality is not providing us with such facilities.”

The eThekwini Municipality has responded by saying, the other bike park are at KwaDabeka, Chester Ville and Inanda, but the academy is also planning to expand in other townships as well.
